Civil War
Era Clothing
Attending the annual Gettysburg Civil War
Reenactment-2008. The almost-matching dresses on the left and right
were made in 2006. My dress (middle) was made in 2008.
Left- my first dress made taking classes offered by Carolann Schmitt of
Genteel Arts.
Right- Melody's silk dress with faux jacket trimming.

More pictures of the navy blue dress. Someday I will
take detailed pictures of the lovely little "star buttons" on the sleeves.
New wrapper- 2009. Photo taken at the
Ladies & Gentlemen of the 1860's Conference
Left- handmade hairnet using Simplicity's Martha McCain Fashion Historian
pattern. Right- back view of my newest dress, and the hairnet.

Mid-late 1860s era bathing costume! One piece dress with separate
trousers.

Detailed views of the wavy braid (ric-rac) trim on the bodice and sleeves.

Left & Middle: The first version of my second Civil War era dress (2005), before
I learned fitting techniques and period trimmings. Right: In 2008 after
completely taking apart the entire dress, re-cutting the bodice pieces, and
re-constructing the dress I added the tic-tac-toe trimming on the skirt and
sleeves. I also added a skirt lifter so I could wear the dress with or
without a cage crinoline.

Left: In my third Civil War era day dress. Right: In my first wrapper at
Ladies & Gentlemen of the 1860's Conference
2007.
Mid 1860s evening gown. I wore this once, back in 2003. Since then, I have used
it several times in historic fashion shows.
